Chaitali Chanda
Chaitali Chanda

Born in West Bengal, Chaitali Chanda holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts in painting from the Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship, affiliated with Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. She works with a range of mediums from bronze sculptures to acrylic paintings. Her works feature themes of femininity and motherhood. She captures the colloquial visual culture of India through her portrayal of rural India and its people, with its crowded markets, lush forestry and dynamic sights. The artist has showcased her work in numerous solo exhibitions, including at Somokal Art Gallery, Bajaj Arts Gallery in Mumbai, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata. Other notable venues for her solo shows include Gallery Nakshatra in Kolkata, the Convention Center in Delhi, and Open Palm Court in New Delhi. “Nature in abundance has been inspiration of life since my childhood. I love the trees drooping with ripe overweight fruits. They remind me of women carrying children with love and care. I feel joyous to observe the opulence of our land with rich colours of flora and fauna. The birds and insects gather around the bursting ripe papaya or the blossoming beetle nuts. For me, the fruit bearing trees come alive as expecting mothers.”
