“Paintings fascinated me from my very childhood. I used to doodle with paints and brushes then. Now my life gravitates around painting alone. Sometimes I have to paint to eke out a living but most often an inner compulsive force tries to surface through paints and I am compelled to express it. Probably because of this, I have not been able to adhere to a particular mode of expression. The self has probably changed over the years and so the modes of expression. Though at present I paint in transparent watercolor, I am not fastidious about the medium. It is ultimately, the expression that counts. Mundane events and people around me whom I encounter everyday interest me much. But my experience comes into my painting after being filtered through dreams.” – Manoj Mitra
