J.M.S Mani studied at the Ken School of Art. He has participated in numerous group shows, solo shows in India and abroad and various camps. He has won the Karnataka Lalit Kala Academy three times and 50 years of Indian Independence by INFACS.
He is inspired by the rustic folk in south India. Their simple existence and grace comes alive through a riot of colours on his canvas. Their daily activities, conversations and emotions set of as great themes against this backdrop. His colours add a sense of drama to their simple activities. The figures seem to be frozen in time. There is a deep-rooted ‘indianess’ in his paintings. He currently lives and works in Bangalore.
