Life exists for the love of music or beautiful things.
Arvind Kolapkar’s works are greatly inspired by music, particularly classical and folk music which plays a predominant role in his work. Colours and melody are seamlessly fused in his paintings conveying a kaleidoscope of emotions. The female form is also a central element of his art. The figures in his paintings seem to glide through, float and rest. These stylised, lyrically drawn shapes remind you of images from fresco paintings. Arvind uses arresting colours and endows almost all of them with a musical instrument, be it the flute or the tanpura. A rhythm of sorts is thereby created which flows through the canvas.
For Kolapkar, painting is an ongoing process of creative activity where emotion and music play a great role in the end product. --Radhika Rajamani
